CHAPTER FIVE

Bhana Darsanam—Vision of Vital Awareness

Verse - 6

अज्ञोयमिति यद्भानं तङ्कारणमुदाह्रतम् ।

अत्राऽहमिति सामान्यं विशिषोऽज्ञा इति स्फुरत् ॥ ६ ॥

What is the vital awareness of 'thus I am ignorant' is this designated as casual;

Then here 'I' is generic (and) 'ignorant' is specific, thus bursting forth.

Commentary

In the Annapurna Upanishad (IV. 26) we read, "vital awareness always shines bursting forth by itself." In this verse the sage tells us that vital awareness bursts forth here in the nature of the generic and specific functioning as the causal. The four types of generic and specific gross or subtle vital awareness burst forth, forming a bridge between outer appearance (objective) and the inner idea (subjective). The non-dual Self is beyond this display as the Witness of the Totality, implied in verse nine of this chapter as well as in Chapter Seven, verse 3.
