CHAPTER TWO

Apavada Darsanam—Vision of Refutation

Verse - 7

विभज्यावयवं सर्वमेकैकं तत्र द्रश्यते ।

चिन्मात्रमखिलं नान्यदिति मायाविदूरगम् ॥ ७ ॥

Every single one of all divisible portions are therein visible,

Not different from what is completely composed of consciousness, which is far away from illusive relativity.

Sree Narayana Guru

Commentary

In truth the divisible portions of name and form are grounded in consciousness. As the Siva Sutra (III.1) declares, "The Self is consciousness." Therefore consciousness is not non-knowledge nor illusive relativity. What is seen as the manifold world has its basis in consciousness as the Suta Samhita points out: "This supreme consciousness is the foundation of all things."

The question Narayana Guru asked in the previous verse, "If the One is only real, how can this other exist?" He answers in this verse. The Real is consciousness and the visible is divisible non-reality having no origin intrinsically its own.

Illusive relativity is that which has no permanent existence, and when set up as a mental or physical structure it dissolves in the light of absolute consciousness. What causes confusion is not clearly understanding that consciousness alone exists and that without consciousness only blank ignorance remains in the mind. Absolute consciousness chit or parasamvit is what is experienced by knowers of the Absolute. It is a state beyond all functional states of conditioned consciousness, whether expanding, contracting or sluggishly idle.
