CHAPTER TWO

Apavada Darsanam—Vision of Refutation

Verse - 6

एकस्यैवास्ति सत्ता चेदन्यस्यासौ क्व विद्यते ।

सत्यास्त्यात्माश्रयो यद्यप्यसति स्यादसम्भवः ॥ ६ ॥

If the One is only real, how can this other exist?

The Real is lodged in the Self, so whatever is non-real has no origin of becoming.

Commentary

The only reality is the One Absolute which has the sage echoing the words of the Svetasvatara Upanishad (IV.1): "The One who is Himself without colours..." Only the One Absolute exists and the colourful relative world of name and form has no absolute reality. As the Bhavisyottara Purana declares: "There is no difference here because the complete cosmos is Siva-Sakti."

"The Real is lodge in the Self", without a second, being non-dual. Only the Real has origin in the Self because the Real is the Self. The non-real has no origin of becoming. This is self-evident.
