The form of wisdom whereby ends and means are inferred
Originating in conjunction with the memory faculty, this functions as inference.
Commentary
In this verse the sage's definition of inference is in accord with the definition found in Chapter Two of Vedantaparibhasha. When we hear music in the temple we infer people are present because of past association. If we never saw fire smoke would not be correctly understood. Inferential wisdom is connected with memory, and it is what we store in our memory and remember that enables us to live in the world with practical understanding.
